Kurt Muller | County Durham

The second store we have worked on for contemporary fashion brand, Kurt Muller, this time a refurbishment for their store in County Durham.

A high key, glamourous looking store was achieved using our Casa GA16 and Lean Mini track lights for the main sales floor. To highlight the ceiling accents, we used Recessed LED Channel to add depth and shape to the look of the store.

Our mirror surrounds were used in the changing rooms, not only do they add depth to the changing room, but the light is optimised to output a flattering colour temperature. Learn more about our changing room lighting here.

Tessuti | Retail Lighting Design

Known as a top destination for all things Designer, we have worked with Tessutti on many stores through our friends at JD PLC.

The store designs all have a super-luxe feel, complementing the designer brands they stock. To complement the light grey colour palette of the store, we used our Nano X white linear and Casa GA16 track-mounted luminaires. A perfect blend of functional lighting whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing, the sleek finish of linear and spot combination adds to the premium feel of the store. Additionally, we used Mullan gold pendants as accents throughout the store, notably suspended above the cash desk, a classic feature of Tessutti’s store design.

We were featured in the September ’19 issue of Premier Retail Magazine for our work with Tessuti.

Kids Cavern | intu Trafford Centre, Manchester

A hub for all things designer, we worked with Kids Cavern for a second time on their brand-new store opening in Manchester’s Trafford Centre.

The lighting design for their second store reflects elements of their first store in Liverpool, with the Hexagon luminaires. The Hex and Y ones found in the Trafford Centre store make a real statement, fun and visually engaging, ideal for a Children’s clothing store. In combination with the suspended luminaires, our Casa GA16 track lights run throughout the store, with each light positioned carefully to ensure every area of the store was illuminated perfectly.

A bold and unique store design for a brand that is showing no sign of slowing down.

Schuh | TwentyTwenty Concept

Schuh is another brand that we have worked with for many years with our friends at Briggs Hillier.

Below illustrates the development in concepts for Schuh over the last ten years, starting with the TwentyTen, TwentyFifteen and the brand new TwentyTwenty.

schuh lighting concepts 2010-2020

The new TwentyTwenty concept debuted in Livingston and Bristol, with it being rolled out into other stores in the future. The main focus of the concept was to attract a younger audience and to create an environment that is dynamic, digitally enhanced and evolves with trends in retail.

The main feature of the store is the ‘goal post’ arches that run throughout the store, bringing depth and maintains interest whilst providing consistent ambient light.

Our main focus was to keep the track lighting as discrete as possible, which was assisted by the perception of a ceiling created by the arches. Ensuring that the mid floor merchandise was bright whilst keeping the walkways ambient was a challenging part of the project. Especially as the shoe displays were developed with the intention of not being in a static position so that the store layout can be flexible. Due to this, we visited the site to trial a variety of beam widths using our Casa GA16 and Lean DL, this enabled the team to select a beam angle that provided the best result for most scenarios to suit such a fluid store.

The overall colour temperature of the lighting for this store was a cooler 4000k to match the white interior. This is a slight shift from the 3000k warm lighting that was used previously, to complement the wooden accents used on the seating areas.

River Island | intu Lakeside

We recently worked with our long-standing friends at River Island on the retail lighting for their new flagship store at intu Lakeside. The store had doubled the size of its previous store, it was clear that the store and lighting design was to be something spectacular.

The Lakeside store was set to be a completely new concept in both store design and the retail lighting design. The Prolight Team worked closely with River Island to create something fresh and exciting. In fact, we had worked on the lighting schemes for this store since 2017, with 23 revisions, which equated to 150 hours worth of design work!

Lighting Design

The lighting design for this store featured the debut of lots of concepts never before seen in a River Island store. Such as, positioning the track lighting horizontally as opposed to vertically, meaning that they blend into the ceiling and aren’t as noticeable. Additionally, the store debuted our Twin Tone track light with a colour rendering of 90, that has the driver inside the track adapter, removing the box to the side which produces a sleek finish.

Another focal point is the pin raft that sits above the shoe area, the cluster positioning of the lights create a starburst effect, ideal for creating something unusual and eye-catching to entice customers to explore the area. For the entrance to the store, we developed an IP67 rated floor LED system that was recessed into the entranceway to the store. The recessed linear floor lighting acted as a division between the wooden and terrazzo pattern floor.  Another element was the 76 individually placed blue glass globe pendants, suspended above the escalators.

River Island’s store lighting is at a unique 3500K colour temperature, unusual for retail lighting, but we developed this option to suit their requirements. Our bespoke led linear luminaires made an appearance in the form of an anodised black 3500k 29m 5-sided shape, creating a focal point in the entrance to the store, that you can follow whilst you browse.

On-site Commission

As with all new flagship River Island store openings, the Prolight team went to commission the lighting in conjunction with the River Island and Visual Merchandising team to ensure everything was lit perfectly. As with previous flagship stores, elements from this store will be rolled out into other stores in the coming months- we can’t wait to share more.

Reiss | King’s Road, Chelsea

Our first project with Premium brand Reiss on their new store on London’s King’s Road in Chelsea, London. A truly stunning store that wows as soon as you set eyes on it, with horizontal running linear lighting visible even from outside that draws you in.

With a tonal palette of grey and white with hints of pink, it has the feel of a luxe gallery, with the single line of rails showcasing a curated collection of clothing and sculptural cashier desk.

Our linear lighting in anodised black 4000K makes a real statement in this store, spaced evenly throughout the horizontal lines make a real visual impact. All manufactured to custom lengths on the sales floor and changing rooms with a seamless design.  All of our linear lighting products are manufactured with integral drivers. As there is no remote driver, each luminaire is individual making installation less invasive to the space.

Our design team created a contemporary lighting scheme that is cost-effective, full of impact and energy efficient, the perfect solution for the future of retail.

Lush Oxford Street

With a store portfolio spanning 49 countries spread over 900 different sites, a flagship in central London seemed a natural development for the ever-expanding Lush brand.

The 9300sq ft. site on London’s Oxford Street has enabled Lush to step up to the table and compete with larger brands that have become Oxford Street stalwarts, such as Adidas and Topshop. The 3-floor emporium is 13 times larger than a standard spec Lush store, and as such required a lighting scheme that suited this quirky brands approach to the retail experience.

9300sq ft. site on London’s Oxford Street

Working alongside Design Time, who produced the retro style ‘recycled’ interior, and Katie Tabram the Creative Director of Lush, it was important to create an exciting lighting scheme that worked in sync with the products as well as the interior design. This was achieved in part by varying the levels and textures of light throughout the store, adding to the already sensory experience of visiting a Lush store.

Dotted around the store are pendants, wall lights and inspection lights that would not look out of place on a vintage movie set. Each one has been up-cycled in the Prolight workshop, and restored to its former glory, with a brand new pendant kit and LED lamp.

Tone LED 3000K in Black

The track light fittings are mostly our Tone LED 3000K in Black, however, this is one of the only consistencies at this store. Each area has had the light fittings and levels tailored to the particular types of merchandise on offer. For the first floor, named the ‘Market and Party Zone’, we created a bespoke antique style suspended trough light that houses LED T8 tubes. A unique multi-coloured LED carousel feature light has been installed in the windows to draw the customer’s eye in from the street outside.

The ground floor reveals a more traditional Lush experience, with LED tape illuminating wall bays and track lights around the perimeter. We also utilised LED tape on the stairs and spent a day working with Benchmarque Designs in Dorset, lending our expertise in order to create backlit retro signage.

The store comprises of a basement level, where a spa has been installed and treatment rooms take centre stage. We chose to highlight the flexibility of recessed dimmable LED lighting here, which can be altered to suit whatever treatment is taking place. It also offers an ambience, miles away from the hustle and bustle of central London outside.

We worked closely with Jen Hilton, Lush’s International Project Manager and visited the store throughout the shop-fitting process to discuss designs and changes required, as well as spending 2 days on the setup and making final adjustments.

Missguided

We had a great time as part of the team putting together Missguided’s first ever standalone UK stores.

The 20,000sq ft flagship in London’s Stratford Westfield shopping centre and Bluewater Shopping centre were the first in a series of store openings for the ever-growing online fashion retailer. We have since worked with them in their expansion in the Middle East, with the opening in The Dubai Mall in early 2019.

The stores completely epitomise everything that Missguided is about. Fast paced and present. With pop culture references everywhere, you find it almost impossible to not understand how the fashion retailer is so relevant.

Working again with our friends Dalziel & Pow we used a wide mixture of designs here, from our classic track lighting to complex and entirely bespoke luminaires. The design team worked together with misguided to put together a store worthy of their brand identity. “There is nothing like it on the high street,” Says our Design manager Sam Weller. “They had an idea, told us what they were thinking. We just hit the ground and ran with it. Completely showed just what they are about and why they are growing so fast.”

Nitin Passi, founder and managing director of Missguided, said: “We’ve witnessed huge growth over the last six years and successfully expanded the business into new markets which was a key priority. Our focus now is all about experimentation with the brand. Trying new and innovative ways to engage a wider market and allowing consumers more diverse ways to shop and interact with Missguided.”

Beswick Stone | Cirencester

Beswick Stone is located in Cirencester and is home to the largest specialist in natural stone tiles, flagstones and Oak flooring in the UK. We have worked with them since 2013, they increased their showroom space to two-floors and so we worked with them on the lighting design.

To create a clean and fresh feel, we opted for 4000k cool white lighting, meaning that the colours of the flooring were displayed as true to life. We used recessed downlights and track lights, for the showroom as this enabled the store to look big, bright and impressive as soon as you walk in. We commissioned the lighting for the showroom, using different beam angles throughout to ensure that everything was lit perfectly.

Lululemon | Covent Garden

Our favourite project of 2018, Lululemon Covent Garden’s refurbishment. Working with our partners Esprit UK we created a truly spectacular shop fit.

Featuring our custom, UK made recessed LED Linear luminaires on the first floor, drawing you into the store as soon as you see it. Paired with our track lighting, back-illuminated uprights meant that the products were consistently well-lit throughout the store. Following the red stairs to the lower level, the Menswear section features suspended LED Linear luminaires, enhancing the grey and white aesthetic of the store and also illuminating the space.

To ensure the store looked its best, we commissioned the lighting on site to ensure every single light was positioned perfectly.
